AWESOME POSSUMS ATTEND NATIONAL BB-GUN MATCH

COOKEVILLE, TN –  In April the Awesome ‘Possums won the Tennessee State BB-Gun Championship match and won the invitation to attend the Nationals. The match is held the first of July each year.

This year there were 412 shooters on 56 teams from 20 states in attendance.  The winning team was Pierce Red from Georgia with 2397-9X.  Second Place went to Roberts County Shooting Sports from South Dakota at 2387-72X.  And third place went to Walton County Georgia BB Team at 2381-76X.  The Possums were the highest scoring Tennessee team at 31st place and 2239-42X. The other Tennessee teams were Hickman County Hawkeyes with 2203-34X,  Rhea County Black Ops at 2198-40X,  Dickson County 4-H at 2140-4X and Blount County Bullseye Bandits at 3043-37X.

The ‘Possum team had Lucrezia Ciaburrro from Cookeville 466-15X, Jaylyn Grider from Baxter 456-9X, Gunny Helton from Hilham 454-4X, Emma Noble from Baxter  438-9X, and Elijah Noble from Baxter 425-5X.  The alternates were Josiah Fortunato from Cookeville 265-1X, and Hannah Fortunato from Cookeville at 251-5X.

In the Champions match (shooters that were on a team last year) Jayden Grider from Baxter came in 22nd at 470-11X and Callie Helton from Hilham came in 25th at 467-9X.  Out of 500 points there was only a 20-point difference between first and twenty fifth place.  Jayden Grider was the only ‘Possum to score 100 on the test portion of the match.

The scores were above average this year.  There were 5 national records set and a lot of good scores. There were 1ten100s in the different positions.  The match had 100 points in each of prone, standing, sitting, kneeling and 100-point test. 500 points for each shooter and 2500 points for each team

This year Charlie Pardue, Coach of the Awesome Opossums, and Howard Baker, Coach of the Oregon Timber Beasts,  were inducted into the Daisy National BB-Gun Hall of Fame for coaching a BB-Gun team for 45 years.
