AWESOME ‘POSSUMS ATTEND NATIONAL COMPETITION

 

COOKEVILLE, TN – The Awesome ‘Possums BBgun team attended the 59th annual Daisy National BBgun National Championship Match (DNBBGCM) held in Rogers Arkansas. The match has been in Rogers since 2010.  This match is sponsored by the Daisy Manufacturing Company since 1965.  Before 2010 the matches were bid on and moved around to different cities across the United States. 

To qualify for the match, you have to be in the top three in a state match.  There were 450 BBgun shooters and 32 Air rifle shooter making up 57 teams from 15 states.

The BBgun matches were 4-position, prone, standing sitting and kneeling, with a test over gunology for a total score of 500 and 2500 for a 5-person team.

The shooters were 8 to 15-year-olds mixed boys and girls, The first place team was the Humboldt Sharp Shooters from Hartford South Dakota at 2400-94X.  Second place went to the Roberts County 4-H  from Roberts County South Dakota at 2379-82X.  Third place went to the Yellowstone Young Guns from Billings Montana with 2366-71X.

The Awesome ‘Possums from Bend of the River were the first of six teams from Tennessee in 24th place with 2274-46X.  The team members were Jayden Grider from Baxter 478-8X, Gage Kilgore from Livingston 462-13X, Hannah Fortunato from Cookeville  448.8X, Josiah Fortunato from Cookeville446-8X, Zander Sather from Hilham 440-9X and alternates Bryson Grant from Cookeville 437-7X and Khloe Phann from Baxter 420-4X.

The other teams from Tennessee were 29th  Rhea County Black Ops at 2249-58X, 41st Hickman County 4-H  at 2187-37X, 48th Wilson Elementary 4-H (Overton County) at 2136-26,  50th Dickson County Top Guns at 2130-26X and Robertson County 4-H at 2045-22X.

The high individual for the ‘Possums was Jayden Grider that came In 15th with 378 shooting and was one of only 23 shooters with 100 on the written test.

There were five individual National Record broken or tied and a new team National Record was set.  There was a high individual 40 shot record of 394 by Taylor Slyder Yellowstone Young Guns,  Intermediate Junior Standing 97 Taylor Slyder,  Sub Junior Standing 97 Kammi Petzel Roberts County, Sub Junior Standing 97 Stazy Sass Pier Jr. Shooters, Sub Junior sitting 100 + 6 more 10s Rebekah Edwardson Pier Jr. Shooters and Intermediate Junior Team 1908 Humbolt Sharp shooters.

Distinguished Expert rating for excellent shooting skill level was awarded to Josie Grider from Baxter, Gage Kilgore, Josiah Fortunato and Cody McCloud from Monterey for BBgun and Callie Helton and Jayden Grider in Air Rifle.   A job well done.

Bend of the River had two shooters in the Champions Match for shooters that were on a team last year and were not eligible for the team competition this year.  These were Jaylyn Grider from Baxter at 458-10X and Gunny Helton from Hilham with 456-10X,

Callie Helton from Hilham was the lone entry in the Air Rifle Match, which was 20 shots in each of prone, standing and kneeling with a 449-12X.
