EMMA BETTERS  WINS  GREG ATCHLEY MEMORIAL PISTOL MATCH

 

COOKEVILLE, TN – Emma Betters from Knoxville was the winner of the 12^th Annual Greg Atchley Memorial Precision Pistol match held recently at the Bend of the River.  The match is in horror of Greg Atchley, a dedicated three-gun shooter that died of cancer.  Greg liked to win with his revolvers over the easier-to-shoot semiautomatics.

This was Betters first Competition and she put in a good showing.  Betters had the score of 2212-29X out of a possible 2700-270X.  Second place went to Helen Marie Kulis from Cookeville with an 1841-15X.  Cayden Kulis from Cookeville was High Junior at 1187-6X.  The X count is shots near the center of the target that are used to break ties and bragging rights.  Other first-time shooters were Diane Cohen and Cayden Kulis.

This was a three-stage match that is 90 shots with a .22 LR caliber handgun, 90 shots with a center fire ( .32 caiber-.45 caliber) handgun.  And 90 shots with a .45 ACP caliber handgun.  You may use either a revolver or semiautomatic.

The stages are 3 targets slow fire, 10 shots in 10 minutes.  Then 3 targets timed fire, two 5-shot strings in 20 seconds.  And then 3 targets rapid fire, two 5-shot stings in 10 seconds.   Targets are scored after each 10-shot group.  It is a fun match.

It was great weather for shooting.  It was cool , overcast and not too breezy.  The predicted rain did not come until the last shots sere fired.
