ROBERT CASE EASILY WINS GREG ATCHLEY MEMORIAL PISTOL MATCH

 

COOKEVILLE, TN – Robert Case from Summertown won the 11^th Annual  Greg Atchley Memorial Match held recently at the Bend of the River.  The Greg Atchley Memorial Match is an NRA precision pistol match held in memory of Greg Atchley, a Bend of the River shooter that died from  cancer.  Greg enjoyed the precision pistol matches and liked to win over the semi-automatic shooters with his revolvers.

Case had the fine score of 2496-72X out of a possible 2700-270X. David Hargis from Rickman was second at 2429-38X.  Mike Thompson from Cookeville was first senior at 2141-22X and Jayden Grider from Baxter was high junior with 1103-2X.

The match has three stages.  First is 90 shots  with .22 LR caliber handguns.  Next is 90 shots with any center fire  (.32 to .45 caliber handguns).  And last is any .45ACP caliber handgun.  The 90 shots consist of 3 10-shot targets slow fire, 10 shots in 10 minutes.  Then 3 10-shot timed fire targets, 5 shots in 20 second.  The other 30 shots are rapid fire, 5 shots in 10 seconds.  Targets are scored and changed after each 10-shot string. Nick Van Egmond from Clarksville was first in the .22 LR stage with 854-30X and first in the center fire with 830-21X.  It should be noted that Van Egmond was shooting a revolver in the center fire stage.  A lot of people think that a revolver is more difficult than a semi-automatic for this type of match.   Case was first in .45ACP portion with 858-29X.  Case was the first to hit a 100 followed by Van Egmnd on the next target.

There was a  very wide range of experience in the match.  There were three “distinguished” shooters and three with very little range time.  The distinguished shooter is an honor for people that are in the top 10 percent of shooter in many matches both local, state and national.
