ZANE MOSELEY WINS GREG ATCHLEY PISTOL MATCH
COOKEVILLE,
TN – Zane Moseley from Cookeville won the Greg Atchley pistol match held
recently at the Bend of the River. Mosley had the fine score of 2525-92X. Second
place went to David Hargis, an NRA distinguished shooter, at 2473-55X. Third was won by Mike Thompson with 2192-19X.
The
match was much closer than the final scores indicated. The match consisted of three stages, 90 shots
.22 rimfire, 90 shots any centerfire .32-.45 and 90 shots with any .45 ACP
handgun. At the end of the .22 stage the
score was 851, 845 and 750. Not bad for
a broad spectrum of ages and abilities.
As the matched progressed Moseley slowly pulled ahead. The three scores of 100 on a target helped a
lot. Even as good as he was shooting, Moseley
let 6 shots get further from the center of the target than was desired. Not bad since there were no matches since
last October to keep in shape.
The
weather was great and there were no firearm malfunctions. Mostly cloudy and cool with the sun coming out
mid-way through the day. Hargis was
shooting for the first time in three years due to health reasons. Thompson also had not shot much lately due to
the pandemic. Much fun was had by all.
Greg
Atchley was a former shooter that died unexpectantly from cancer. Greg enjoyed the precision pistol matches and
liked to win over the semi-automatic with his revolvers.
The
next pistol match at the bend of the River is June 13nh. The Tennessee
state smallbore 3P rifle match will be on June 6th. Spectators are welcome and there is no fee to
watch.
