MIKE THOMPSON WINS AUGUST DOG DAYS OPEN PISTOL MATCH

COOKEVILLE, TN – Mike Thompson from Cookeville was the overall winner of the NRA Precision Pistol match held at the Bend of the River last week.  Mike had the combined score of 1994-18X.  HelenMarie Kulis from Cookeville was second with 1353-8X.

It was a great day with cool temperatures and mild breeze and partly cloudy skies.

HelenMarie only began shooting this year and doubled her score from last match.   “It was probably the red-dot sight that she used for the first”. time said Charlie Pardue.  This match allowed revolvers or semi-automatics in .22 LR with any sight.  The original metallic sights are good.  A telescopic sight can be used but the red-dot type sight is preferred by shooters of all ages.  The dot type sights are not as dependent on good eyes.

The match is 270 shots.  27 targets 10m shots per target  at 25 yards.  9 targets are SLOW FIRE, 10 shots in 10 minutes.  9 targets TIMED FIRE, 5 shots in 20 seconds with two strings on each target.  And 9 targets RAPID FIRE, 5 shots in 10 second with two strings per target.  The sustained  fire strings are not really fast.  Just try holding your breath for twenty seconds and you will see they have plenty of time for 5 shots.  The 10 second string is a little faster, but it is doable.  The Xs ae shots near the center of the bullseye and are used to break ties.
