NICK VAN EGMOND WINS CINCO de MAYO SMALLBORE RIFLE MATCH

 

COOKEVILLE, TN – Nick Van Egmond from Clarksville was the overall winner in the Cinco de Mayo rifle match held recently at the Bend of the River.  Nick’s score was 1135-31X out of a possible 1200-120X.  Jeff Norrod from Monterey  was second with 1098-16X.  Jayden Grider from Baxter was a close third at 1086-17X.  The X-count is a shot very nearly in the center of the 10-ring and is used for breaking ties if the numbers are tied. This was an any sight, 3-position at 50 yards match approved by the NRA. There were 40 shots in each of prone, standing and kneeling.

It turned out to be a really great day for shooting. It was partly cloudy, mild temperatures, not much wind and no rain. 

Although Van Egmond was first overall, he did not win all the positions.  Prone had Van Egmond first with 398-17X.  Jayden Grider was second with 383-11X.  And Callie Helton from Hilham was third at 380-10X.

Standing was as much fun.  Jeff Norrod was first with 534-7X. Van Egmond was second with 354-5.  This is where the difference is just an X or two.  Jayden Grider was third with 340-2X.

There were no surprises in kneeling.  Van Egmond led the way with 383-9X.  followed by Norrod at 368-4X and Jayden Grider 363-4X in second and third.

There were four junior shooters and they made a good showing.  Jayden Grider was first junior  1086-17X, Gunny Helton was second 949-12X, Callie Helton was third 888-13X and Jaylyn Grider was next to last 886-4X.

The senior shooters were led by Mike Thompson from Cookeville with 718-7.

The next rifle match at the Bend of the River is the Tennessee State Match on June the 2nd. , May 12, 2024.  These matches are open to all persons 14 years of age and older..  The public is invited.  For more information contact Charlie Pardue at  (931) 498-2829 or  bendoftheriverpsc@twlakes.net  .
