NICK VAN EGMOND WINS STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

 

COOKEVILLE, TN – Nick Van Egmond from Clarksville was the winner of the 2024 Tennessee State Smallbore Rifle Championship held recently at the Bend of the River.  The match was a three-position at 50 yards match with .22LR caliber rifle consisting of 120 shots for a possible 1200 points.  Van Egmond had a total of 1240-31X.  Jeff Norrod from Monterey was second at 1081-16X. Jayden Grider from Baxter was third and high junior shooter with a close 1054-9X.  Jaylyn Grider from Baxter was next to last at 865-4X.

The match consisted of three stages of prone, standing and kneeling.  Each stage had 40 shots.  The X-count is shots that are near the center of the bullseye and are used to break any tie in score. Van Egmond was the high scorer in each position but not by much. 

It was a wonderful day for shooting.  There was rain in the forecast but it never happened.  It was cool with a  light breeze.  Niko Dillon from Cookeville that was shooting for the first time managed a respectable 441-0X.  The shooting went smooth and every one had a good time.
